Cleland's Advanced Pistol

For those interested in personal protection or as an introduction to IDPA or IPSC competitions. These shoots provide practice under the pressure of time constraints and real life scenarios. Learn and practice "thinking on the move in the range!"

Each class is approximately 2 hours long and is limited to a maximum of 10 shooters. Pre-registration is required to hold your seat and requires the completion of either Basic Pistol, Intermediate Pistol or the approval of the instructor. The fee is $35.00 per person.

You can expect to be coached through a sequence of shooting exercises that will include:

Training is based upon the requirements of the Ohio Concealed Carry Handgun Law. These requirements include a minimum of twelve (12) hours of both classroom and range instruction consisting of:

Ability to name, explain and demonstrate the rules for safe handling of a handgun.
Ability to demonstrate and explain how to handle ammunition in a safe manner.
Ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to shoot a handgun in a safe manner.
Range time, live fire training and gun handling training.
Pass a competency examination that shall include a written section on the ability to name and explain the rules for the safe handling of a handgun and proper storage practices for handguns and ammunition.
Pass a physical demonstration of the competence in the use of a handgun and the rules for safe handling and storage of a handgun and physical demonstration of the aptitude necessary to shoot a handgun in a safe manner.

The curriculum we are offering has met, or exceeded, the certification requirements of the Ohio law. However, there may be legal challenges to Ohio law or unforeseen administrative roadblocks that could make it difficult, or impossible, to obtain a permit. Some individuals may not have the ability to meet the certification requirements. Consequently, in registering for these courses, students acknowledge that they are accepting these risks. Proficiency Prerequisite

If a student is not at all familiar with firearms, or has doubt that they may not pass either the written exam or range qualification, it is highly recommended that the student first attend at least one of the following:

Beginning Pistol Course - Two Hour
NRA Basic Pistol Lesson - Private Lesson.

If a student does not pass the written exam, we will work with the student while another class is taking the exam.

If a student does not pass the range qualification, we will require the student to attend a Basic Pistol Course—Two Hour ($50.00 fee applies) and re-qualify by appointment ($25.00 fee applies). Please keep in mind that the Ohio Concealed Carry Course is not a beginner's class.

Course cost is $149.95, per person, with optional suggested book purchase (“NRA Guide to Personal Protection”) of $14.99. No unregistered observers.
